I ran across a story and a 60 Minutes interview that I thought you might find interesting relating to the accuracy of credit reports. I have an opportunity to pull about 400 credit reports a year for clients seeking mortgage financing and it is my opinion that the overwhelming majority of the credit reports I review are accurate. That's the good news.
If you are unlucky enough to have a credit report that has some erroneous information, the story will shed some light on just how difficult it can be to get the information corrected or removed from your credit report. It is very easy for a creditor to place something in your credit file but it almost takes an act of Congress to get the credit bureaus to correct.
